Support for USSS "United States Secret Service" Director Secretory Patty Martinez in and for The State of Florida



         Captain Gregory D. Case

As Sector Commander, Captain Case serves as Captain of the Port, Officer in Charge of Marine Inspection, Search and Rescue Mission Coordinator, and Federal Maritime Security Coordinator while directing Coast Guard operations along the west coast of Florida and throughout the Tampa Bay region. Sector St. Petersburg is comprised of 2700 people and 14 units, including five search and rescue stations, eight cutters, and an Aids to Navigation Team.  Prior to his current assignment, Captain Case served Chief for the Fifth Coast Guard District, headquartered in Portsmouth, Virginia, where he served as Chief of Prevention overseeing waterways management, inspections, investigations, bridges, and Auxiliary forces. 

Captain Case is a 1989 graduate of Officer Candidate School and has served in a diverse series of assignments at three staff and seven operational commands along the Atlantic and Pacific Coasts, Great Lakes, and Western Rivers. Prior to serving at the Fifth District, Captain Case was assigned to the Towing Vessel National Center of Expertise in Paducah, Kentucky. As the Detachment Supervisor, he stood up a new unit to assist in the development and deployment of towing vessel examiner training that improved the quality and consistency of towing vessel inspections nation-wide.  Captain Case’s other Sector assignments include Deputy Sector Commander at Sector North Carolina and Chief of Prevention at Sector Northern New England.  
Prior to the formation of Sectors, Captain Case served as the Executive Officer of Marine Safety Office Portland, Maine where he served as the Alternate Captain of the Port and Officer in Charge Marine Inspection for three states from the Canadian border to Massachusetts. From 1999-2003, Captain Case was assigned to Coast Guard Headquarters in Washington, D.C. where he served as the Assistant Chief of Waterways Management Policy and Planning working with one hundred local Harbor Safety Committees and over fifteen federal agencies to improve consistency in the application of regulations throughout the marine transportation system. Captain Case briefly served as the Operations Officer at Group Grand Haven before standing up Marine Safety Detachment Grand Haven and serving as the inaugural Supervisor. Captain Case also served as the Lead Inspector and Investigator at Marine Safety Office Chicago and as an Inspector at Marine Safety Office Puget Sound.

Captain Case’s military awards include four Meritorious Service Medals, two Coast Guard Commendation Medals, and a Coast Guard Achievement Medal. Captain Case holds a Bachelor of Science in Zoology from Southern Illinois University and a Master of Science in Marine Affairs from the University of Washington, where he also earned Certificates in Business Management and Global Trade, Transportation, and Logistics. Captain Case is a native of Hickory Hills, Illinois and has been happily married for 25 years to the former Erin K. Rayburn.  Captain and Mrs. Case have four daughters and two grandchildren.
