...A STORM SYSTEM WILL AFFECT SOUTHWESTERN CALIFORNIA WITH RAIN AND
MOUNTAIN SNOW ON SUNDAY...
AN UPPER LEVEL LOW PRESSURE SYSTEM OFF THE NORTHERN CALIFORNIA COAST
THIS EVENING IS FORECAST TO DROP SOUTHWARD TONIGHT...THEN PUSH
ACROSS SOUTHWESTERN CALIFORNIA SUNDAY INTO SUNDAY EVENING. AMPLE
SOUTHERLY FLOW WELL AHEAD OF AN ASSOCIATED COLD FRONT WILL BRING A
SLIGHT CHANCE OF SHOWERS TO MANY AREAS TONIGHT. MODERATE RAIN WITH
THE MAIN FRONT IS EXPECTED TO DEVELOP ACROSS THE CENTRAL COAST BY
EARLY SUNDAY MORNING...THEN SPREAD QUICKLY SOUTHEASTWARD...REACHING
THE LOS ANGELES BASIN BY EARLY SUNDAY AFTERNOON. IT APPEARS THAT
THERE WILL BE A 4 TO 6 HOUR PERIOD OF STEADY RAIN WITH THIS FRONTAL
SYSTEM...FOLLOWED BY SCATTERED SHOWERS.
ALONG AND AHEAD OF THIS FRONT...THERE WILL BE A PERIOD OF GUSTY
SOUTH WINDS...ESPECIALLY IN THE MOUNTAINS...AND ACROSS SAN LUIS
OBISPO AND SANTA BARBARA COUNTIES. DURING THE HEIGHT OF THE
STORM...RAIN MAY BE BRIEFLY HEAVY AT TIMES...ESPECIALLY NEAR ANY
THUNDERSTORMS THAT DEVELOP...SOME OF WHICH COULD PRODUCE SMALL HAIL.
SHOWERS WILL END ACROSS THE REGION BY EARLY MONDAY MORNING.
RAINFALL AMOUNTS ARE GENERALLY EXPECTED TO RANGE BETWEEN 0.50 AND
1.00 INCH IN MOST AREAS. LOCAL AMOUNTS TO AROUND 1.50 INCHES CAN BE
EXPECTED OVER THE FAVORED HILLS OF THE SANTA LUCIA RANGE...AS WELL
AS THE SANTA MONICA MOUNTAINS AND NEAR THE SANTA BARBARA/VENTURA
COUNTY LINE.
IN THE MOUNTAINS...SNOW LEVELS ARE EXPECTED TO BE NEAR 5500 FEET
WITH THE BULK OF THE PRECIPITATION...BUT COULD LOWER TO 4000 TO 4500
FEET ON INTERIOR SLOPES WITH ANY STRAY SHOWERS BEHIND THE FRONT.
SNOW TOTALS ARE EXPECTED TO RANGE BETWEEN 3 AND 6 INCHES ABOVE 5500
FEET...BUT COULD BE SLIGHTLY HIGHER IF THE FRONT SLOWS DOWN MORE
THAN EXPECTED...IN WHICH CASE A WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY MAY BE
NEEDED. SNOW COULD IMPACT TRAVEL ON PORTIONS OF THE ANTELOPE VALLEY
FOOTHILLS AND INTERSTATE 5 NEAR THE GRAPEVINE SUNDAY NIGHT.
THERE WILL BE ANOTHER CHANCE OF RAIN ACROSS THE REGION LATE
WEDNESDAY NIGHT INTO THANKSGIVING.
IF YOU ARE PLANNING TRAVEL OVER THE WEEKEND...ESPECIALLY INTO THE
MOUNTAINS...STAY TUNED FOR LATER FORECAST AND CHECK THE LATEST ROAD
REPORTS.
