1034 AM PST FRI NOV 11 2011
...PACIFIC STORM TO IMPACT SOUTHWEST CALIFORNIA THROUGH SATURDAY...
A CUTOFF LOW PRESSURE SYSTEM CONTINUES TO DEVELOP OVER THE EASTERN
PACIFIC OCEAN AND WILL APPROACH SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA TODAY. RAINFALL
WITH AN ASSOCIATED COLD FRONT WILL INCREASE IN COVERAGE AND INTENSITY
ACROSS SAN LUIS OBISPO AND SANTA BARBARA COUNTIES THIS AFTERNOON
AND EVENING...WITH STEADY RAIN REACHING THE LOS ANGELES BASIN
OVERNIGHT. THERE WILL ALSO BE A SLIGHT CHANCE OF THUNDERSTORMS ACROSS
COASTAL PORTIONS OF SAN LUIS OBISPO AND SANTA BARBARA COUNTIES
AND THE ADJACENT COASTAL WATERS AS A MORE UNSTABLE AIR MASS ENTERS
INTO THOSE AREAS LATER TODAY.
DUE TO THE ERRATIC NATURE OF CUTOFF LOW PRESSURE SYSTEMS...THERE IS
STILL CONSIDERABLE UNCERTAINTY IN TERMS OF RAINFALL AMOUNTS WITH
THIS SYSTEM. HOWEVER...IT DOES APPEAR THAT MOST AREAS WILL RECEIVE
BETWEEN ONE QUARTER AND ONE INCH OF RAINFALL...WITH HIGHEST AMOUNTS
EXPECTED ALONG THE COAST. IF THUNDERSTORMS DEVELOP...THERE COULD
BE LOCALLY HIGHER AMOUNTS...ESPECIALLY ACROSS COASTAL PORTIONS OF
SANTA BARBARA COUNTY.
SNOW LEVELS WILL BE ABOVE 7000 FEET FOR THE DURATION OF THIS
EVENT...WITH ONLY LIGHT ACCUMULATIONS EXPECTED EVEN AT HIGHER
ELEVATIONS. LOCAL WIND GUSTS TO 45 MPH CAN BE EXPECTED TODAY ACROSS
THE MOUNTAIN AREAS...WITH BREEZY CONDITIONS EXPECTED ACROSS MANY
LOWER ELEVATIONS AS THE FRONT APPROACHES THE REGION.
HIGH SURF ADVISORIES HAVE BEEN POSTED ACROSS THE CENTRAL COAST...WHERE
BREAKERS OVER 10 FEET CAN BE EXPECTED. LOCAL SETS TO 7 FEET WILL BE
POSSIBLE ACROSS WEST FACING BEACHES OF LOS ANGELES AND VENTURA
COUNTIES.
