BAN WELCOMES PANEL'S CALL TO PUT SUSTAINABILITY, YOUTH AT CENTRE OF

the recommendations of the High-level Panel on a global development
framework for the period after 2015, United Nations Secretary-General
Ban Ki-moon welcomed the group's call to put sustainability and youth
issues at the centre of the anti-poverty agenda.

"He emphasized that sustainability is not just an environmental
matter, but an approach that would integrate the economic, social and
environmental dimensions of development," Mr. Ban's spokesperson said
in a <"http://www.un.org/sg/statements/index.asp?nid=6858">statement
following the handover of the Report of the High-level Panel of
Eminent Persons on the Post-2015 Development Agenda.

The Secretary-General, the spokesman, said also welcomed the report's
attention to youth and inclusive growth and employment creation in the
report, which will be made public later today.

The report was delivered at a ceremony attended by Panel co-Chair
President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono of Indonesia on behalf of his
fellow co-Chairs, President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf of Liberia and Prime
Minister David Cameron of the United Kingdom.

At the ceremony, Mr. Ban praised the Panel for its inclusive approach
and extensive consultations over the past year on the recommendations
for an agenda beyond 2015, the target date for achieving the
anti-poverty targets known as the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs).

"He welcomed the Panel's recognition that the post-2015 development
agenda should be universal, applying to North and South alike, and be
infused with a spirit of partnership based on equity, cooperation and
mutual accountability," the spokesperson said.

Following today's ceremony, the Secretary-General transmitted a copy
of the report to the President of the General Assembly for circulation
