The Woodhaven SBS will be the most intensive and most beneficial SBS route to be implemented and is a vital transportation route for thousands of residents. “This is the biggest, boldest, and most ambitious design concept the City has attempted for Select Bus Service and I want to thank Mayor Bill de Blasio for his support,” said NYC DOT Commissioner Polly Trottenberg. “Queens deserves better public transit and we’re excited to bring this innovative design for bus rapid transit to move New Yorkers efficiently while at the same time making the streets safer for all." This project will create a permanent outdoor amenity for the Northern Manhahttan community, turning the block of W 175th St into 14,000 sq ft of public pedestrian space. The site has long served as a community marketplace but was only an asphalt street without any public amenities. Once completed in early 2016, La Plaza will accommodate public events during the day and evening; such as art shows, non-amplified folk music/dance, dramatic performances, poetry readings, and craft fairs. Our recent campaign features actual NYC DOT employees who are heroes on the job and to their families. National Work Zone Awareness Week's aim is to better protect crews working to improve our roadways, but everyone in our city will benefit: 85% of those killed in work zones are motorists or passengers. So, please be patient; work zone crews are working to improve your ride. Meet Charlie: NYC DOT Bridge Defender. Father. "I've been an iron worker for 20 years. Once a car struck behind my work truck and I was thrown to the ground and broke my ribs. We want drivers to always look out."
