Hell yes, cheap vodka is worse than expensive vodka. The really cheap bottom-shelf sold-in-a-plastic-jug stuff smells and tastes like hairspray, while a decent upper-range vodka like Hangar One (distilled near where Mythbusters does some of their more entertaining myth busting!) is smooth enough to drink straight at room temperature.
You might not be able to taste the difference if you're using a strong enough mixer, but you'll definitely feel the difference in the morning. It's all about the congeners.
Cost less then Rubbing Alcohol? Ask Obama on what he would do in such case and don't let him say "I don't drink" because he still haven't given blood test to find out if he's a Monkey.
